Words of Wisdom on ExecutionExecution is the job of the business leader. Strategy is overrated, simply doing stuff is underrated. We have a strategic
plan. It's called doing things! The thing that keeps a business ahead of the competition is excellence
in execution. An astounding 90% of well-formulated strategies fail due to poor execution.
Only 5% of employees understand their corporate strategy! Unbelievable!
Only 3% of executives think their company is very successful at executing
strategies, while 62% think they're only moderately successful, or worse.
The execution of strategy is dependent upon team members on the front
line being clear about the organization's priorities and how they must
act to achieve the stated objectives. It sounds simple but is highly complex. Execution is a systematic process of rigorously discussing hows and whats,
tenaciously following through, and ensuring accountability. You don't beat people with surprises, but with execution. The result ... is an organization that has developed the most vital core
competence of them all―the ability to execute its strategy. The secret of getting ahead is getting started! Quality is never an accident; it is always the result of high intention,
sincere effort, intelligent direction and skillful execution. There is one business problem that if solved, will make solving all other
problems easier. This foundational challenge is executing strategy. EXECUTION, is defined as closing the gap between results promised and
results delivered. Strategy gets you on the playing field, but execution pays the bills. The execution of the laws is more important than the making of them. The truth of the matter is that you always know the right thing to do.
The hard part is doing it. Until it's executed, a plan is only a plan. Execution is "the missing link between aspirations and results." There is value in careful planning and thoughtful preparation. However,
until there is execution, no plan is flawed, no preparation inadequate.
Execution spotlights it all. A good plan violently executed now is better than a perfect plan next
week. Incremental planning and sustained execution can make the insurmountable
possible. Good thoughts are no better than good dreams ... unless they be executed. The best way to keep good intentions from dying is to execute them. The biggest obstacle to success is the absence of execution.
